Town board meeting 6/11/20
The Copake Town Board met via Zoom. Several issues were discussed including the Hecate Solar Project, Purple Heart Community plan for the Town, establishment of several reserve funds, purchase of new flags and the status of reopening Town Hall and Copake Park. Unfortunately, it does not look like the Park will be opening any time soon and we will not be able to have our Summer Park Concert Series or Summer Camp Program. Stay tuned for updates or check out Town of Copake Website for further information. Stay safe. We will get through this.
Our first Town Board meeting for 2020 was held this past Thursday. Thank you to those who attended. We are going to accomplish great things. Looking forward to the New Year and working with the Copake Town Board.
1000 Seniors attended this year! I completed my 7th year performing hearing screenings for our Seniors, and providing counseling about hearing loss and hearing aids.
Great time visiting friends at the Columbia County Fair!
We live in the best place! Dad’s Diner celebration, customer appreciation day! Wonderful turnout.
Our Summer Park Program is one of the best around. I had a blast leading a Zumba class for the kids this week.
A tremendous amount of time and effort goes into budget preparation, which is one of the primary responsibilities of the BOE. The 2019-2020 budget reflects a 1.62% decrease from last year's budget. This having been my first year on the Board, I feel it's important to communicate that I am looking out for our community and our children. Myself and one other member voted for the least amount of tax increase in the current budget. The consensus of the BOE was to go with the maximum allowable tax levy amount, and the budget was passed with a 3.31% tax increase this past week. I also was the only Board Member to vote against the Free Lunch for All program at the school. I weighed in on all the advantages and disadvantages. After listening to parents, staff and school employees, the consensus was that most were not in favor of Free Lunch for All for a number of legitimate reasons. Of course we all want to help those that need these programs and no one wants to see children go hungry! I truly hope things work out with this program in the coming years.
I was delighted to get such a great response to my Zumba class during Success Fest. These kids were great! So much fun and full of energy. Overall, Success Fest was a huge success!
Last week's Farming Our Future Conference presented at THCSD was excellent! Our local farmers face so many challenges these days. A wide range of topics was covered in the various workshops presented by experts in the field. Healthy, fresh food provided for breakfast and lunch. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet with local farmers and vendors to discuss the issues. Special shout out to Taconic Hills for sponsoring this event.
Dr. Terry currently works as a Speech - Language Pathologist at Fairview Hospital in Gt. Barrington, MA and consults at Camphill Village in Copake. She was elected as member of the Taconic Hills School Board in 2018, and is currently on the Copake Park Commission, and Copake Ethics Board.
