1000 Seniors attended this year! I completed my 7th year performing hearing screenings for our Seniors, and providing counseling about hearing loss and hearing aids.
Great time visiting friends at the Columbia County Fair! We live in the best place! Dad’s Diner celebration, customer appreciation day! Wonderful turnout.
Our Summer Park Program is one of the best around. I had a blast leading a Zumba class for the kids this week.
A tremendous amount of time and effort goes into budget preparation, which is one of the primary responsibilities of the BOE. The 2019-2020 budget reflects a 1.62% decrease from last year's budget. This having been my first year on the Board, I feel it's important to communicate that I am looking out for our community and our children. Myself and one other member voted for the least amount of tax increase in the current budget. The consensus of the BOE was to go with the maximum allowable tax levy amount, and the budget was passed with a 3.31% tax increase this past week. I also was the only Board Member to vote against the Free Lunch for All program at the school. I weighed in on all the advantages and disadvantages. After listening to parents, staff and school employees, the consensus was that most were not in favor of Free Lunch for All for a number of legitimate reasons. Of course we all want to help those that need these programs and no one wants to see children go hungry! I truly hope things work out with this program in the coming years. I was delighted to get such a great response to my Zumba class during Success Fest. These kids were great! So much fun and full of energy. Overall, Success Fest was a huge success!
Last week's Farming Our Future Conference presented at THCSD was excellent! Our local farmers face so many challenges these days. A wide range of topics was covered in the various workshops presented by experts in the field. Healthy, fresh food provided for breakfast and lunch. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet with local farmers and vendors to discuss the issues. Special shout out to Taconic Hills for sponsoring this event.
Healthcare is my passion. I was recently invited to join Congressman Delgado's Healthcare Committee. I believe him when he says he wants to reach across party lines to come up with real solutions for the country. #purplesolutions |
